Kota Kinabalu - Day 1

I am so excited about this trip that i did not sleep much the night before. This is the first time i will be climbing a mountain (yes a mountain! Not Bukit Timah Hill!) and i am not sure if i could do it since i never really trained for this climb and i am not a very fit person so i really need to use my will power and determination to climb Mt Kinabalu.


I woke up earlier then the time i set for the alarm. Washed up and headed off for Changi Airport. Had my breakfast at Mac then went to T1 to get ready to board the plane bound for Kota Kinabalu. The flight is about 2 hours. Upon reaching reaching Kota Kinabalu Airport, i head straight for the airport taxi service and board a taxi to my hotel for the first night. I will be staying at Courtyard Hotel @ 1Borneo for the first night. Cost me 50rm for this taxi trip.


After checking in, i went to my room, put down my big bag pack changed into my 3/4s, and went to check out this huge shopping mall. Actually after walking around the shopping mall, there isn't much things around here. So i had a quick lunch and ask around how to go to Kinabalu City. As usual, the adventurous me took a minibus ride to Kinabalu City which the locals usually take, cost me only 1rm for this trip.


The minibus stopped at this bus terminal which i thought would be the same bus terminal that i will be taking a bus to Kinabalu Park HQ the next day... but i was wrong! After asking around, it seems this bus terminal no longer have the bus service to Kinabalu Park! Starting to feel anxious now haha since its my first time in Kota Kinabalu and i forgot to bring out the map i took from the airport earlier. Luckily i found a guy who can understand and speak English... got from him the direction to take which bus to Warisan Square (there is a free shuttle service back to 1Borneo).


After exploring Warisan Square a while there is nothing much actually just a few interconnected blocks of malls here. So i decided to go back to 1Borneo and perhaps catch a movie there to kill time haha. Waited for the free shuttle service and to my horror! Their shuttle service is so efficient that even though I am 5 mins earlier for next scheduled shuttle service, the guy at the booth told me the shuttle bus just went off and the next shuttle service is at 7pm which is about 1 hour plus later! Arrgghh! So in the end, i flagged down a taxi to go back to 1Borneo.


Initially wanted to try the Fish & Co here at 1Borneo but then i decided to walk around to look for other options then found this Hong Kong Cafe and decided to give it a try, don't know is it i am hungry or what but the salted fish fried rice here is so yummy! After dinner, i went back to the hotel and rest, decided to give the movie a miss. And so that marks the end of my first day at Kota Kinabalu.
